FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Mannheim/London, Jun 2018) The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force on 25 May 2018 for companies which process personal data.
Many companies are now faced with the task of updating internal data protection regulations and even redrafting them under certain circumstances. These documents then frequently have to be translated into several different languages.
Let’s take a closer look at 3 challenges presented to many companies and the solutions which flexword offers:
In addition to the content-related changes, the new GDPR also focuses on formalities. Article 12 of the Regulation states that documents and guidelines regarding data protection must be written using clear and simple language. This requirement naturally also extends to translations. Since the grammar and sentence structure of languages differ greatly, if inexperienced translators are “let loose” the original, easy-to-understand text can be rendered complicated and unidiomatic. In the worst case scenario, this could mean failure to meet one of the requirements of the GDPR.
flexword works exclusively with professional and experienced translators whose work is subjected to continuous in-house random testing. Good to very good assessments of style and linguistic usage are the key criteria when selecting suitable translators and proofreaders.
Data protection regulations are often formulated by experts, who apply their relevant expertise to draft the text.
The correct wording and terminology are all-important here. A precise translation into the target language is a true challenge and demands a high level of specialist know-how.
For its legal translations, flexword employs a specially trained team of project managers and specialist translators with additional legal qualifications and/or many years of professional experience in the translation of legal texts.
Moreover, flexword also ensures that, whenever possible and appropriate, the translations use the standard wording and terminology from the new GDPR.
This additional quality control ensures the outstanding accuracy and consistency of the technical terms used.

Up against the clock
The drafting and formulation of documents regarding data protection laws is time-consuming. Nevertheless for many companies the multilingual publication of such documents needs to be rapid.
To accommodate this need, flexword offers a flexible express service, which takes the desired delivery date into account and relies on quick processing times. Following a personal consultation with a flexword employee, the best approach for the customer is determined. At present, the maximum capacities at flexword are 30,000 to 50,000 words per working day (depending on the file format and language combination and subject to a lead time of 1 to 2 days).
